VASA-1 is a technological tool that brings static images to life. It achieves this by using AI to animate facial expressions and head movements on a picture. In the process, the software makes it appear as if the person in the image is speaking. Although Microsoft’s research on VASA-1 is not available to the public, it’s only a matter of time before someone replicates and enhances the technology, possibly for malicious purposes.

VASA-1 is only a research demonstration at this stage. Microsoft said it has no plans to release an online demo, API, product, additional implementation details, or any related offerings until it is certain that the technology will be used responsibly and in accordance with proper regulations.
